Homeschooling Help
Teaching Reading
Welcome to my blog! I am so excited to start this journey in assisting parents in teaching their child(ren) to read. I am a former homeschooling mom, a certified elementary teacher (k-6) with a specialty license in Literature and Communication Arts (5-8 grade), as well as have completed the courses for my Reading Teacher Licensure (k-12) – but still have to send in the paperwork for that one 🙂 I have been teaching homeschooled students in a classroom environment since 2008 in a hybrid school that is an actual partnership between homeschooling parents and our school district, and have been working as a reading tutor using a Orton Gillingham approach to reading. So…lots of experience and education in the reading department – but NONE in the blog department, so please bare with me. It is my passion to teach children how to read, and (despite being paid by our local school district) love working with homeschooling families! The dedication to their children, the education given at home, and the family bonds are truly top tier. I also know it is HARD work and so easy to question if you are doing it “right”…especially if your child would rather build stuff than sit and do workbooks. I hope this blog helps you.
